Andean Scenery Motif Wall Hanging Half Chiselled Gourd
This decorated half chiselled gourd is commonly called a Lapa and is created as a wall hanging piece of decoration. In this case it shows an Andean scenery where you can identify a condor on top of a mountain and a family performing their daily chores: weaving, washing clothes, taking care of the animals. They were made from carved gourds in the Peruvian sierra of Huancayo. The technique for producing a chiselled gourd involves etching fine lines into the gourd with a scalpel called a buril, creating a series of drawings.
