The technique for producing a chiselled gourd involves etching fine lines into the gourd with a scalpel called a buril, creating a series of drawings. These mates are shaped in the form of owls playing different local and well known instruments, the trumpet, the guitar, the drum and the zampoña (panpipes). They are detailed with 950 peruvian sterling silver and they originally come from the area of Huancayo in the Peruvian Sierra.
