Waitasqacha or Wrapped Child Wall Décor, Medium – Blue/Light Blue Piece

This figure of a Wrapped Child or Waitasqacha in quechua is one of the many representations of Baby Jesus or Niño Manuelito as named around the Cusco Region since Colonial times, although some say the Niño Manuelito might be a different character.

The Niño Manuelito was believed to have a playfull character so the fact that it is being wrapped had the purpose of restraining him from leaving home to play around. It was believed he gave protection to the home, so the original habit was that this figure would be hanged from behind the front door.

These figures are made in rice plaster and carefully painted in different color combinations and patterns so no figure is exactly the same as another one.

You could hang  them from a wall to add a beautiful and original touch to your home.
